Angel shot up in bed and shivered violently, arching up against the bed and groaning as the heavy bedclothes rubbed his straining cock. How many dreams had there been now? He couldn't even remember. They started before Christmas and had continued almost every night. Hell, it was the end of January and in his dreams he never even got to touch her. Not really. And they weren't like his other dreams of her. These were real. More real than anything else. More vivid than the dream he shared with her that Christmas so long ago. Sighing, he swept the covers away. If this didn't stop soon, he would be legally insane.

Buffy shot up in bed and choked for breath. She looked around her empty bedroom and allowed the tears to fall down her cheeks. God, it had been one of those dreams again. There had been one perfect kiss in this one and the whole world had dropped away. Those boots in the dream had been so damn uncomfortable and when he kissed her, he lifted her up just slightly off the floor, just so her feet didn't hurt anymore. It was like he knew that she hated the way they felt, but loved the way they looked.

One of her friends back at Hemery used to say that it didn't matter if shoes were uncomfortable - for the right look they were worth it. That memory had stuck with her and from time to time she followed it for the sake of wonderful shoes.

She knew the dream wasn't just a dream of him. She felt every muscle of his chest and torso pressed up against her just like he used to feel, exactly how he felt when his arms were around her. His lips had started out cool, almost cold, and had warmed quickly against her rising heat just like they used to. The whole experience had been so unbearable she wasn't sure if she wanted to fall curl up into a ball and sob or slip her hand between her thighs and caress the wetness she knew was there.

The following morning, Angel stared at Buffy standing near the front door, wearing that same outfit she wore when they had made love for the first time. He knew he had gone insane, because God, he could smell her, aroused and afraid. The rain hadn't dried from her skin yet and she was shivering just like she had that night. He looked down and the floor was covered in the raindrops that had fallen from her body.

"C-cold," she said, her teeth chattering and her whole body reaching out for him without moving. She always was so good at that - letting him know she wanted to be touched without saying a word, without even moving. He stared at the apparition of his mate, shivering there. She didn't move, just shook and finally, she cocked her head to the side and looked deeply in his eyes, right at him, right through him and whispered, "Angel?"

He squeezed his eyes shut and clenched his fists. Insane. He had gone completely insane. He remembered that night so clearly. He recalled trying to calm himself as he stood there in his own apartment holding out his own dry clothes to his shivering not-yet-mate. Just the thought of her naked body in his sweat pants and t-shirt had made his undead heart feel as if it were going to pound. It had been just a half second from drumming in his chest, just like it was now.

He heard his name again but this time it was Cordy's voice. He opened his eyes and jerked because Buffy was gone and Cordelia Chase was standing right in front of him, less than a foot from where Buffy had been standing.

"Angel?" Cordy repeated, "Are you okay?"

Buffy was so tired. She had been trying to stay awake for days and days just to keep the dreams of Angel at bay. It was wearing her down and she felt a cold shiver go down her spine as she thought of the night before when she had accidentally fallen asleep. He had been there. She knew it. Maybe not his body, but definitely his soul.

That thought terrified her. It made her want to run home and call him to see if Angelus had been released. Of course, last time, his soul hadn't hung around and tormented her dreams. That only happened when he was still there, filling that beautiful body with that pure soul.

She was so filled with her own thoughts that she nearly slammed right into him. She stopped dead - no pun intended - in the cemetery and stared at him, mouth open, jaw slacked. He was soaking wet, just like the night they had made love and in his hands were the clothes he had tried to give her, the ones that she had never put on.

"Put these on," he said, his voice the same timbre it had been that night, ringing right in her ears like he was standing next to her, "Get under the covers. Just to warm up."

She stared at the ghost of him before her. Was he dead? She certainly wasn't asleep that was the only thing she was sure of. His voice didn't have the ghostly echo that dreams sometimes carried, it was real. It was his voice and she couldn't answer. She couldn't move. After a long moment, he held the clothes out again, looking at her with sorrow in his eyes, "Buffy?"

"Something really, really strange is happening, Giles," Buffy said, curled up on his couch, clutching a warm cup of tea, "I mean, at first it was just dreams and they were freaky real, but still dreams. Now I'm seeing him, like on patrol. Tonight, I went home and he was in my bedroom!"

"But you said they were memories, Buffy?" Giles prodded gently, "As if your mind is bringing back real life images from your past."

"They are memories," Buffy said nodding, "But they totally aren't memories! It's like it's replaying. It's like a warning or something."

"Buffy, have you stopped to consider that perhaps there is some magickal element here? There's a chance that some enemy is trying to send you to him to cast his soul from his body again," Giles said, as gently and firmly as he could.

"I have to do something!" Buffy said in exasperation, "This is driving me insane."
